Leanne joined Rachel’s Runners in the later part of 2014. She quickly found her running groove and joined us every week during Field 3. A woman of my own heart – one full of determination! Please say hello to Leanne…
Tell us a bit about yourself.
I’m a busy wife to Greg, Mum to Daniel 19, Ethan 15 and Abby the Poodle 4.
Tell us a bit about you and running – how, when, why.
I have never been a runner. I was a swimmer at school but never could run very well. I decided that I was going to give it a go when I saw something about Rachel’s Runners (RR) I have tried to do Couch 2 5k twice but I never got further than Week 3. So I started RR and never missed a Saturday session. Some days were easier than others.
I never thought that I would be able to run 5km non-stop, but at the Rachel’s Runners Fun Run it happened! I did it and the reward was for me to get pink streaks in my hair if I did it! Now I love my pink hair streaks because they mean something to me. I achieved something that I never would have, had if I had started running on my own.
What’s the best thing about running for you?
My running buddies who also do a spin class with me and I love them. Plus the ladies that I have met since starting with Rachel’s Runners. Also, being able to run the Mothers Day Classic for a friend that has just been diagnosed with breast cancer not so long ago. Previously, I would have never even contemplated it.
What’s your favourite running equipment?
My Shwings of course!
What’s your biggest challenge with running?
My mind and I sort of shuffle, but in my head I see myself running like a Olympian!
If you could invent a running or fitness tool or toy what would it be?
A motor for my legs and a time machine to take me back 40 years so I could’ve started running then.
Any tips for fellow runners?
Give it a go! I’m going to line up for the next round of RR and can’t wait. I love my Saturday morning run with everyone!
