It’s pretty hard to believe that we have already seen the completion of our second field of Learn-to-Runners for the year. Time sure does fly when you’re having fun!
Winter is always the hardest time to drag yourself out of bed…it’s often freezing cold, dark, raining and busy with kids’ sports, but our Winter 2015 group have been awesome! The almost zero degree temperatures did not stop many and last week we had our new runners ‘graduating’ with our favourite event, our very own 5km fun run.
If you have run with us before or read my previous blog posts, you will know how much work goes into these days and they would not happen without the support of our lovely volunteers and our very generous sponsors. In 2013 when we held our very first event, we had about 10 runners and 2 of us coordinating everything else, but last week we had about 10 volunteers to help pull the whole show together for the group of close to 30 runners. This just keeps on growing!
For the very first time, I got to run in the event as my boys had requested to have a go and I did not want to discourage them and I had such a great time! It was fabulous to be out there on the track , encouraging everyone and seeing so many people give it their all to bring home their first non-stop 5km. My boys had a great time too, with one taking out the gold in the kids division and the other coming in third. Very proud mumma!
Overall, the event went ahead without a hitch and was another huge success. I am yet again very impressed by the efforts of all our runners who continue to inspire me with their dedication and determination. Thank you to all of you for believing in Rachel’s Runners and mostly for believing in YOU!
Of course a heartfelt thanks must also go out to all of the businesses who continue to support our group, for without them these events would not be a great as they are. Thank you to…
Finally, to show you just how great these days are, follow the link below for a short slide show of photos taken on the day by our two fantastic volunteer photographers Paul Muldoon and Rich Tapp.
