This morning a team of Rachel’s Runners set off for a local fun run known as “Heart of the Lake”. It is run by another local running club, Westies Joggers. Their club is in a park just down the road from where we have our weekly runs and their fun runs are always great!
The last time our team entered into a Westies fun run we took out multiple medals and today was no different. A couple of our speed demons, Kay and Jennifer came first and second in their age group and for the first time ever, we had two male medal winners. Diala’s husband Nader won a silver medal in his age group and my husband Michael placed third in his!
While most of our team entered the 3km race today, Amy took on the 10 km challenge. Although she didn’t feel so great at the end due to a couple of nasty hills, she surprised herself & did a PB time of 52:43, hills and all. Her daughter Bella also set a new PB in the 3km and is all pumped up for her school cross country race which is coming up soon.
The Fenerty family also braved the slightly damp weather and got stuck into the 3km course. Little Sean was the champion of the family, crossing the line first 😉 Great job guys!
As I am still on official post marathon rest, I was not allowed to ‘race’, but did enter the 3km run with my two sons. They are aged 6 and 8 and this was our first fun run together and the furthest they have ever run. They were little champions too – running their hearts out and taking a breather when needed. Both even managed the final sprint home across the finish line. What a proud mumma moment!
Overall, it was a great morning of family, running and team spirit, as well as a fabulous start to the day! A big thanks goes out to Diala, Noah, Sarah and her boys for being our cheer squad. It makes a huge difference when you have people welcoming you home across the finish line.
Rachel’s Runners will be looking forward to your next fun run in September, Westies. Thanks again for having us!
