Earlier this year I was asked to trial and review a new socks brand to the Australian market – ‘Paire’. As a runner, hiker, walker and lover of everyday footwear comfort, I jumped at the chance. Here’s my honest review on feels and functionality.
How do they feel?
My first thought on opening these socks was, “they are so soft”. This was confirmed once I put them on – they are the most comfy socks I have ever worn. Being made of Aussie Merino wool and sustainably sourced cotton ensures they are super soft, just like walking on clouds. As a long distance runner and hiker, I’m all about comfort and if socks are too thin or harsh to touch, they can not only be terribly uncomfortable to wear, but also cause blisters – everyone’s worst nightmare! Happy to say these softies haven’t caused a single blister and I do like to clock up the kilometeres! Plus, wet feet have been a constant lately in Sydney with the unsually high amount of rain and I’m also happy to say, no blisters caused there either. In fact, the socks kept my feet dry – amazing!
Another thing I noticed about Paire socks is that they feel super warm – they will be great in Winter for sure! In noticing this, I was worried about them being too hot on my feet during the warmer months, but I was pleasantly surprised; my feet actually stayed cool and dry in the heat. The natural fibres sure are a winner here!
The final note I made about fit and feel of the Paire socks, is that they don’t feel too tight, or loose for that matter. In the words of Goldilocks they are ‘just right’. If there’s one thing I’m not a fan of, it’s being cut off around the ankles by socks that make your legs look like stuffed sausages, and happy to report that Paire socks do not do this at all – WIN!
How do they look?
Paire socks come in quite a few different styles and lengths so there certainly is something to suit everyone. I was sent 3 pairs: the active sock, quarter sock and calf sock. As a runner, my favourite socks are the low cut ‘active’ style. I particulary like the cute slogans on each foot such as ‘good feels’ and ‘look’ (left foot) [before you] ‘leap’ (right foot). I think this is a fun addition. The colours are fairly plain, which is fine by me as I usually wear plain black socks, so if you’re a Plain Jane too, then these are the socks for you!
The calf length socks would be my next favourite as I find them great for wearing in the bush as the length helps to keep the dirt and sand out. However, these did not last too long on my feet becuase as soon as he saw them, my teenage son whisked them away saying “oh great, new basketball socks!”, so I lucked out there! At least I can vouch that Paire socks are versatile and perfect for many different wear occasions!
What do they cost?
Any runner or sports person in fact, will tell you that if you want socks that fit well and cause no issues, you need to pay top dollar, and this is not a problem as no one wants socks that fall down or give you blisters. Paire socks are just over $20 a pair, which I would say is pretty standard for great quality socks, BUT…the more pairs you add to cart, the cheaper they get. For example, one pair of active socks comes in at $21.90, 3 pairs costs $62.40 and 6 pairs costs $124.90…HANG ON, there’s still more!!! If you add the code BESTSOCKS at checkout, you will receive an extra $15 off any order over $100. SO good!!
