Hollee joined Team RR in 2017 in the middle of an amazing transformation and is now well on her way to being the fastest in the squad!
Tell us a bit about yourself…
I’m 50 years of age and had a life changing operation that helped me get fit about 2 years ago. I also wanted to find a life outside of WORK, WORK, WORK – I think they call that a hobby! That’s when I got back into running.
Tell us a bit about you and running – how, when, why…
I got back into running when I ran my first parkrun at Panania (the old course) in October 2016. At that stage I had only lost 20kg of my end result of 55kg. I didn’t think I could run 5km at all without walking. I went along not expecting anything too spectacular of myself but I ran the whole way in just under 32 minutes. From there I met some inspirational people who chose to invite me along to other events and ultimately led me to Rachel’s Runners. Now I run for the sheer pleasure of eating breakfast with everyone afterwards and talking shop (running gear)!
What’s the best thing about running for you?
Running is cathartic. I’m a big music lover so for me so running and music just go hand in hand. I recently read that music is considered a performance enhancing drug. I have to agree, but at least there are no side effects.
What’s your biggest challenge with running?
Getting bored of the same routes so I like to switch them up and try to get around to different clubs. However, I will always come back RR as they are so much more friendly and welcoming and caring, as I tend to spend some of my time on the ground (people who know me will get this).
If you could invent a running or fitness tool or toy what would it be?
I suppose at the moment it would be light weight and breathable bubble wrap for when I stack it!
Any tips for fellow runners?
Switch up the types of runs you do. For someone who doesn’t like the same thing it’s good to be adventurous and try new things. Also, always find good supportive people to run with as it inspires you to achieve.
