With less than four weeks to go, I am feeling great! Hopefully the rest of the lead up goes as smoothly as it has been.
I had a VERY busy week last week. Not only was I training for a marathon, I was organising our second Rachel’s Runners Fun Run for 2014. Oh, plus I work 3 days a week (I’m a Kindergarten teacher), and I have 3 boys at home (two children and one husband) and, well the list goes on…
Things can get very hectic around here at times like these, but as the saying goes “One step at a time”. Not only do I use this quote in my long distance running, but it is the thing that gets me through daily life on many occasions. Sometimes it’s the only thing that stops me having a meltdown when things start piling up. Make a plan/list, follow it/cross things off and everything will be fine. Trust the plan!
So back to the marathon training (a plan I am following VERY closely right now)…last week was wet in Sydney, really wet! This week is not turning out to be much better!! However, I did manage to get in around 50km of running, which I’m happy about. I also just checked my Garmin totals for the month of August and I will be up over 200km for this month!
Last time I trained for the marathon I was exhausted most of the time, but this time I feel great. When I first got my training plan from my coach I was in shock at the amount of running I’d be doing and could already feel myself falling in a heap before I even started, but I have surprised myself. I think the combo of doing MORE running during the week, maintaining my weekly strength workout and getting to bed early most nights all helps. Speaking of which, I am headed to bed very soon, but before I go…
This coming Sunday brings around my longest training run leading up to this race. Actually it will be my longest training run ever! I will be belting out 32km around the local streets with some of my running buddies (I hope!) on Sunday morning so make sure you give me a wave of support if you pass by.
Another way you can support me and team Rachel’s Runners is by coming to our bake sale at Revesby Woolworths on Saturday 30 August. We are busy cooking up some lovely treats & will be selling them until we run out with all proceeds going to our beloved beyondblue. An organistation which supports people who suffer from anxiety and depression. If you can’t make the sale, you might be able to help out by donating straight to our fundraising page (link is on the side bar of this blog). Thanks in advance and I will see you on the other side of 32km, hopefully with only fabulous tales to tell!!
